Final day of Viva Las Vegas

The final day of Viva Las Vegas ended in fantastic style with three excellent Doowop acts who brought a big smile to everyone's faces. First up was Bobby Hendricks, looking great in a smart dark suit, brown shirt and white hat, who was backed by Lil Mo and the Dynaflos. Kicking off with Clyde McPhatter's A Lover's Question, he continued with Drip Drop, a song he sang lead on while with The Drifters. Then it was Drifters material with Fools Fall In Love and Money Honey, the ballad A Thousand Dreams and his big solo hit Itchy Twitchy Feeling. Mesmerising stuff from a singer who I thought I would never get to see.
Next up was Norman Fox and the Rob Roys, who I last saw in Long Island last weekend. He was given more time to shine, both with his singing and his dancing, as the group did six numbers: Lover Doll, Dance Girl Dance, the ballad Dream Girl, Do Re Mi, Pizza Pie and Tell Me Why. Great stuff. Finally it was the turn of legendary LA harmony group The Medallions, with Billy Foster on lead, who treated the crowd to a highly entertaining and amusing set with The Letter, Magic Mountain, Behind The Door and a couple of car songs, 59 Volvo and Buick 59, during which Billy brought members of the audience on stage to drive along to the song. What a great set!
Earlier we had Boston band Jittery Jack and Miss Amy, featuring some great guitar playing from Amy. Numbers included Let's Go Rock and Roll as a tribute to Joe Bennett. The Jets returned with some different material, showing how versatile they are. Local band the Delta Bombers attracted a big crowd but didn't inspire me, but final act Gizzelle, a redhead with a big soulful voice, certainly did, on numbers such as I Found A Love and Somewhere Down The Line.
So VLV ends and a great festival it's been. But we are staying in Vegas for one last night to catch Bobby Jones and Monique Brewster at the City Lights blues club. Loads of photos will go on the blog when I get back next week.
